One-stop centres: Door step services and schemes for the disabled in Tamil Nadu

The Tamilnadu welfare department announced good news for the persons with disabilities in the state. Soon the state government will launch 39 one stop centers OSCs.

What are one-stop centres (OSCs)

The One stop centers or OSCs will act as a single point of contact for the people differently abled for their rehabilitation services and also to apply for the schemes they are eligible for.

one-stop centres (OSCs) will be launched at sub divisional level which will further reduce the distance. So far the disabled people approach district level offices for various services. Henceforth these OSCs act as the nearest points for them.

These are being set up under the aid of World Bank-funded RIGHTS project.

What services are provided at OSCs

The OSC centres will have 9 experts to cater services to PWD, these services  including a psychologist, physiotherapist, speech audiologist, occupational therapist and special educator apart from a case manager who will be a social work professional

The government has stated that the qualified professionals at OSCs will also take up welfare activities like accepting applications for the various schemes from all the departments and ensure that they reach the deserved persons in the state.
