LIC offers scholarships to encourage talented students across the nation who are economically disadvantaged to pursue their higher studies.
Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is providing unprecedented support to encourage talented students. LIC Silver Jubilee Foundation (LIC GJF) ensures higher education for students from economically backward families. Applications are invited from eligible students for the ‘LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship-2023’ through https://licindia.in/ online. Eligible students can apply online till January 14.
Who is eligible?
Students who have completed 10th standard or intermediate education for 2022-23 are eligible for this scholarship. Must have secured at least 60% marks in recognized educational institutions. Students studying Inter First Year, Second Year, ITI, Diploma, Polytechnic, or any Vocational courses can also apply. Annual family income should not exceed Rs.2.5 lakhs. In the case of widow/single women, the annual family income should not exceed Rs.4 lakhs.
To apply under the Special Girl Child Scholarship Scheme, the girl students must have passed the 10th standard for the year 2022-23 with at least 60% marks. Only those who want to join Intermediate or 10+2 should apply. These scholarships are offered for UG courses only and not given to PG courses.
How many will be given?
30 people will be shortlisted for each LIC Divisional Center across the country. 20 of them (10 boys, 10 girls) for general scholarship; Also, the other ten who are eligible will be selected for Special Scholarship for Girl Child.
How much will be given?
Students selected for general scholarship and those studying medicine will be given Rs.40,000 annually subject to eligibility. This amount will be directly deposited in the student’s bank account in three instalments (Rs.12000; Rs.12000; Rs.16000). For engineering students, Rs.30 thousand will be given per year. This amount will be paid in three instalments (Rs.9000; Rs.9000; Rs.12000). Those doing graduation, integrated courses, diploma and vocational courses will be given Rs.20,000 annually till the completion of the course. This amount will be deposited in the bank accounts in three instalments (Rs.6000; Rs.6000; Rs.8000).
Under the Special Girl Child Scheme, selected students will be given Rs.15,000 per year. This amount is paid in three instalments (Rs.4500; Rs.4500; Rs.6000) to complete Inter and Vocational/Diploma courses after completion of 10th standard.
A few rules…
- Those already receiving scholarships from other trusts/institutions will not be considered for this scholarship.
- This scholarship does not apply to students enrolled in distance learning courses or part-time classes. Also, those doing CA/CS/ICWA or self-study courses are ineligible.
- Students selected for the Special Girl Child Scholarship will be eligible for renewal for the next year only if they secure 50% marks in the first year of Inter.
- The scholarship will continue for the next year only if the students enrolled in professional courses like medicine and engineering and those enrolled in general degree courses obtain the prescribed marks. Regular attendance percentage is also considered.
- This scholarship is given to only one person in the family. If there is a girl child in the family then both are allowed.
- Violation of any rule laid down by LIC while granting this scholarship will result in cancellation of the scholarship. If he/she is proved to have been selected for this scholarship with false information/fake certificates then he/she will cancel the scholarship and recover the amount from them.
MODE OF APPLYING
ONLY ONLINE APPLICATIONS ARE TO BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THE LINK ON THE HOME PAGE at www.licindia.in. Once the online application is submitted, the candidate will get acknowledgement on the email ID provided by him in the online application. Further correspondence will be made by the Divisional Office which is mentioned in the acknowledgement mail. The candidate should ensure to submit his correct email ID and contact number for communication at a later date if required. CONDITIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIP
- The scholarship shall be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 60% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose parents/guardians from all sources does not exceed Rs.2,50,000/- per annum.
Relaxations in the upper limit of annual income criteria from the present Rs. 2.5 lakhs to Rs.4 lakhs shall be granted only in cases where a woman (widow/single mother/unmarried) is the sole bread earner of the family.
- Selection of LIC Scholar will be based on merit and family background such as percentage of marks in class 12th /10th and annual income of the family. Final Selection of candidates shall be done on merit based on the list of candidates eligible for selection in the descending order of marks obtained.
- In case of a tie in the percentage of marks, students whose parents have the lowest income shall be given preference.
- Candidates who gain lateral entry in 2nd Year of Engineering Degree courses or take regular admission in the 1st Year of Engineering Degree courses after completing the Diploma shall be eligible for the GJF Scholarship provided they have passed the Diploma with 60% in the immediate preceding academic year.
- Candidates who change their stream after getting selected for a Scholarship and the course duration is greater than the stream for which the student is selected, such students will continue to receive scholarships only for the duration for which they were originally selected. However, if the candidate switches to a stream with a lesser duration, then the scholarship will be payable for the duration of the stream with a lesser duration.
- Candidates who are pursuing courses under any stream through Correspondence or Part-time (Evening or Night Classes) / private candidates shall not be eligible for a Scholarship.
- Candidates desirous of pursuing a Diploma course in any stream after Class X will be allowed Scholarships under the ‘Special Girl Scholar’ or ‘Regular Scholar’ category.
- Candidates passing Class XII (vocational) and pursuing studies in any stream as approved under the Scholarship Scheme 2022 will be considered for scholarship.
- The candidate should secure more than 55% marks in professional streams and 50% marks in graduation courses in Arts/Science/Commerce or equivalent grade in the previous final examination of the course for which the scholarship is awarded, failing which the scholarship will be discontinued.
- Candidates selected under the category ‘Special Girl Child’ should secure 50% marks in 11th std to become eligible for a renewal scholarship.
- Scholarship will not be given to more than one student in a family.
- The students should be regular in attendance for which the yardstick shall be decided by the competent authority of the school/college/university.
- Income certificate should be on a self-certification basis by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper for self-employed parents and from the employer for employed parents supported by documents (from the revenue department) such as land held in the name of parents.
- If a student violates any terms and conditions of the scholarship, the scholarship may be suspended or cancelled.
- If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statement/certificates, his/her scholarship shall be cancelled forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid shall be recovered, at the discretion of the concerned Divisional Administration of LIC.
- Out of the shortlisted candidates, Twenty (20) students will be selected under the Regular Scholarship Scheme and ten (10) under the Girl Child Scholarship Scheme depending upon merit and eligibility by the Divisional Office for grant of scholarships
