The Telangana government has shared good news and new year gift to gig workers in the state.
On Saturday, the state government issued an accident insurance policy of Rs.5 lakh for the Gig Workers who work temporarily on online apps and digital platforms like Zomato, swiggy, etc for their livelihood. This decision will benefit many delivery boys in the state.
It is known that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had a meeting with gig workers on December 23 at Nampally Exhibition Ground. On behalf of around three and a half lakh gig workers (those who work temporarily on online apps and digital platforms) across the state, the CM met them to better understand their issues.
During the meeting, the gig workers brought many issues including job security to the attention of the CM. In this context govt has issued GO providing them the insurance worth 5 lakh rupees.
In the GO government stated that it has decided to extend the insurance policy which is currently applicable for “transport and non transport auto drivers/home guards/working journalists ” to Gig workers and platform workers in the state.
The gig workers welcomed the state government decision to providr accident insurance.
The CM recently said that an app will be made available for gig workers under the auspices of T Hub. Gig workers are advised to submit applications with their details in Praja palana Gram Sabhas which are being held from 28th to January 6th of this month.
