Senior Citizens above 70 are now entitled to get Free Insurance under Ayushman Bharat by default

The Union Cabinet held an important meeting on Wednesday i.e. on September 10 2024. Many key decisions were taken in this meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As a part of this meet, Ayushman Bharat (Ayushman Bharat) health insurance scheme has been by default made applicable for all senior citizens in the country who are aged 70 years and above. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav revealed the media about the decisions taken in this Union Cabinet meeting.

Health insurance for all above 70 years regardless of their Economical Status

The central government’s decision to extend the Ayushman Bharat scheme to all those aged 70 years and above has been widely applauded. The Center has decided to apply this insurance to all those who have completed 70 years across the country irrespective of their socio-economic status.

This decision will benefit about 6 crore senior citizens. Under this scheme they are entitled to get free treatment facility up to Rs.5 lakh. He said that if they are already beneficiaries under this scheme, an additional insurance of Rs.5 lakh will be applied to the senior citizens living in such houses. Those enrolled in other insurance schemes are given the flexibility to opt for either (Continuing Insurance or PMJAY).

It is known that the central government launched the Ayushman Bharat Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY) scheme in September 2018. Under this scheme every member of the poor families of the country will be given an Ayushman card. On admission to hospital with this card Rs. 5 lakh medical services can be availed free of cost. But anyone above 70 years of age can get free medical services irrespective of their financial capacity with the latest decision.
