India Post (Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications) has released the official Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Notification – January 2026 for engagement of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak posts across various postal circles in India.
Selection will be done purely on the basis of 10th class marks. There is no written examination or interview for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026.

Posts & Job Responsibilities
Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Overall management of Branch Post Office
- Handling IPPB & postal services
- Marketing of postal products
- Must arrange accommodation for Branch Post Office at own cost
- Minimum working hours: 5 hours per day
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Mail delivery and counter operations
- Assist BPM in office functioning
- Minimum working hours: 4 hours per day
Dak Sevak
- Mail delivery & collection
- Sorting and dispatch of postal articles
- Support post office daily operations
Salary / TRCA Pay Scale

GDS are entitled to DA, annual increment @3%, gratuity and service discharge benefit scheme.
Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit (as on last date)
- Minimum Age: 18 Years
- Maximum Age: 40 Years
- SC/ST – 5 yrs | OBC – 3 yrs | PwBD – up to 15 yrs
Educational Qualification
- 10th pass from recognized board
- Must have studied Mathematics & English
- Local language studied at least up to 10th standard
- Basic computer knowledge certificate required
- Knowledge of cycling is mandatory (exempted only for PwBD candidates)
Selection Process & Merit Rules
Selection is based on system-generated merit list prepared using 10th class marks up to 4 decimal places. No rounding off of marks is allowed.
- If tie occurs, older candidate will be preferred
- If still tie, category priority applies
- Only ONE postal circle application is allowed

- No fee – SC / ST / PwBD / Female / Transgender

- Original certificates will be verified
- False information leads to immediate cancellation
- Failure to meet eligibility at verification stage will cancel engagement
