Mammootty addresses experimental stories.. diverse characters. Now another experimental film called ‘Bhramayuga’ has come out from him. Made entirely in black and white, Mammootty played a different role. It was already released in Malayalam and received a good response. Now it is released in Telugu as well. And what kind of feeling did ‘Bhrama Yuga’ spread on the big screen? (Bramayugam Movie Review) What is the original story? How was Mammootty’s performance?

Story

It was 17th century.. Malabar coast. Devan (Arjun Ashokan) is a low-caste folk singer who sings in the court of a king. He escapes from the king and sets off on a forest path with a friend to meet his mother near home. But, in this process, he gets lost in that dense forest. At the same time his friend is eaten by a fairy (Amalda Liz). Devan, who is lonely, searches for food in the forest.. and steps into a big abandoned house. There is only the owner Koduman Potti (Mammootty) and the cook (Siddharth Bharathan). Koduman cordially invites Devan to his house saying that a guest has come to his house after a long time. But after entering that house, Devan will have a wonderful experience. Within a few days he realizes that he is a hostage in that house. When he tried to run away from there, Koduman made him come back home with his tantric education. And what happened after that? (Bramayugam Movie Review) Who is Koduman Potti? What is his background? Why does the cook stay in that house knowing his true nature? Did he, Devan escape from that house alive? Or? You have to watch the movie to know that.

Technical Analysis

This is a dark fantasy horror thriller of a different kind. Also, this story mainly revolves around three characters.. in the same abandoned house. But, Rahul Sadashivan has scored good marks in capturing the feeling that we are watching again and again in any single frame, without feeling that the story revolves around the same. (Bramayugam Movie Review) How a young man saves himself from the clutches of a sorcerer who learned tantric education in a ruined building. Caste discrimination in this.. How does power turn a man into a monster? Those things were discussed internally.

The movie starts interestingly with the scene of Devan wandering around in the forest. The friend who came with him suddenly disappeared.. He is eaten by the yaksha.. Devan runs away in the forest in fear. Mammootty’s introductory scenes as Koduman are interesting. The atmosphere of his house.. Everything that Devan encounters from the moment he steps into that house is curious. (Bramayugam Movie Review) The real twist in the story will be revealed before the break. Then another form of Koduman will be introduced to the audience. The way the director has shown it is interesting. It also raises expectations for the second half.

The background of Koduman Potti.. Chudalan Potti coming in this sequence.. the story of the Chetans.. all are impressive. Ever since he learns that Koduman is a monster in human form, Devan’s every step is interesting. (Bramayugam Movie Review) The basement under the Koduman Sabha hall.. another world in it.. the huge lamp in it.. Devan and the cook together make a move to reach it.. the terrifying experiences they face during that journey will make all the audience sit on the edge of their seats. And the flag scenes are very thrilling.

Actors Performance

Mammootty’s acting is the main attraction of this movie. The way he appeared in the role of Koduman.. his appearance.. his gestures.. all his acting will leave the audience enthralled. Especially in the key scenes, his performance is captivating. Arjun Ashokan’s performance in the role of Devan also pleases everyone. In the second half, he acted like Mammootty, you and me. Siddharth’s performance as a cook is also impressive. (Bramayugam Movie Review) Although Yakshi’s character is interesting in the beginning, it does not mean that it has importance in the movie. The story written by the director.. the imaginary world created for it called Bhrama Yuga.. the characters in it.. all take the audience into that world. Gives a new feeling. And every song composed by Christo is very meaningful as a part of the story. The background music keeps the audience immersed in the story. Even though the film is completely black and white, every scene looks beautiful on the screen. The build values are high.

Strengths

  • + Story background.
  • + Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan acting..
  • + Performance of interludes, flag scenes, technical sections

Weaknesses

  •  A slow moving story here and there..
