Government of Andhra Pradesh has mandated the students to open joint bank accounts for the students benefitting through Jagananna Vidya Deevena scheme and Jagananna Vasathi Deevena scheme. Govt has also clarified on the frequently asked questions on the same as below. This information is basis what has been circulated in govt sources, yet final confirmation has to be sought by student in his/her nearby sachivalayams.

Who should get a joint account?
Joint account is not required for students belonging to SC community and students completing final year in academic year 2022-23. All the other students should also get a joint account.
Who should be in joint account?
Student should be the Primary Account Holder and Mother should be the Secondary Account Holder.
Note : In case of death of mother, there may be father/guardian.
When a single mother has two or three studying children, does each one need an account (separately)? Or can I make an ok account?
Officials inform that the accounts should be opened separately. It means that if there are more than one number of eligible children, they have been informed to make a separate account for all of them.
But in many places, all the eligible children in the same family are taking an account together. At the time when everyone has the same joint account, the primary account holder student’s whose course has more years to study (if he is younger than others, he will still have many years of course), that student should be put as the primary holder and the rest of the students and the mother should be put as the secondary holder.

Joint account should be done in which bank?
It can be done in any bank.
Can there be a joint account in the post office?
Post office does not have joint account facility.
Is a joint account made in RDT as a child sufficient?
When the student is a minor, the mother is the primary account holder, otherwise it is sufficient if the student is the primary account holder. Once in the bank who is the primary and is the account active? Confirmation should be taken from the bank.
Can joint account have ATM card / Net banking?
There should be no ATM or net banking.
Can joint account be “zero account”?
Yes
Joint Account details should be submitted in sachivalayam before which date?
24th November 2023 but as release date of vidya deevena scheme postponed to December 7th, this cut off might be extended. Please check in your sachivalayam.
Can the mother be added to the student’s existing account and converted into a joint account?
Yes.
NOTE: That account should not have facilities like ATM card / Debit Card & Net Banking.
Should there be a minimum balance in the joint account?
No need. Zero account therefore no minimum balance required.
NPCI link for joint account?
NPCI link is not required for joint account.
