EC gives nod for the use of Grama Ward Sachivalayam employees for AP election duty

Despite multiple requests from opposition parties, the Central Election Commission of India has given go ahead for the use of Grama Ward Sachivalyam Employees for the election duty in upcoming General Elections 2024 in Andhra Pradesh.

The State Election Commission has communicated the same to all district collectors in the state.

Sachivalyam Employees in Election duties with conditions

i. Gram/ Ward Sachivalayam employees shall be assigned duty only as OPO(other polling officer) for miscellaneous work like applying indelible ink to the voter sand other sundry jobs only.


ii. Each polling party formed can have maximum one such eligible regular Gram/Ward Sachivalayam employee.


iii. Gram/Ward Sachivalayam employees deployed as BLOs shall not be deployed in
polling parties, as they have other duties assigned on poll day as per extant
instructions.


iv. Village/Ward Volunteers shall neither be deployed for any kind of election related works nor shall they can act as polling agents of any candidate, as directed earlier by the Commission.

In brief Grama Ward Secretariat employees were allowed as other polling officers one each in the polling station , however grama ward volunteers have been banned from the duties.
