Good news for Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana scheme beneficiaries. The center has raised the interest rate on SSY accounts from existing 8.0% to 8.2% by 20 basis points.
The increased interest shall be applicable from 2024-25 FY.
About Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)
The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a savings scheme initiated by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, specifically designed for the benefit of the girl child. The scheme was launched as part of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign to promote the welfare of the girl child and encourage parents to save for their education and marriage expenses. So far, 3.2 crore accounts are active under the Scheme.
– This scheme can be opened anytime before the child attains 10 years of age.
– Only one account can be opened in the name of a female child.
– The account can be opened from any post office or banks.
– Child’s birth certificate is mandatory to open the account.
– The account can be opened with a minimum amount of 250. A maximum of 1.5 lakhs can be deposited in a financial year.
PMSSY Revised Interest Rate 2024-25 : 8.2%
This scheme can be opened by parents or guardians in the name of a girl child. This scheme can be opened only under 10 years. This scheme has the flexibility to invest up to a maximum of 1.5 lakhs every year. This account matures at 21 years. Up to 50% of the amount can be withdrawn early for higher studies.

This scheme can be opened at your nearest post office or banks.
SSY Application Process –
1. Go to your nearest post office or any major bank and take the Sukanya Samriddhi account form.
2. Fill all the details and submit your child’s date of birth certificate, child’s photograph, parent’s Aadhaar card and photograph.
Note: First account will be opened for the child on behalf of parents or guardians. The account opening takes 2 days.
3. Once the account is opened please make an initial deposit of minimum 250 till 1.5 lakh in a financial year.
