The Government of India on the eve of Republic Day has announced Padma awards for the year 2024.
A total of 132 recipients are announced for the Padma Awards 2024.
Padma awards are categorised into 3: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service). The award seeks to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.
These Cinema Legends have been Awarded for the year 2024
Out of 132 Padma Recipients, Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi, Legendary actress Vyjayantimala, Bollywood versatile actor Mithun Chakraborty, Vijaykanth, singer Usha Uthup and composer Pyarelal Sharma are from the cine background who received the Padma 2024 awards.
Mega Star Chiranjeevi is an Indian legendary actor, film producer and former politician. He is regarded as one of the most successful and influential actors in the history of Indian cinema predominantly in the Telugu Film Industry, also called Tollywood. In a career spanning over four decades, he starred in over 150 feature films predominantly in Telugu, as well as some films in Hindi, Tamil and Kannada.
Vyjayantimala – Classic Bollywood Actress Vyjayantimala is an Indian actress, dancer and parliamentarian. Regarded as one of Indian cinema’s finest actresses and dancers. She is a well-known actress in both Bollywood and South Indian Cinema.
Mithun Chakraborty – Mithun Chakraborty (born on 16 June 1950) is an Indian actor, producer and politician who predominantly worked in Hindi and Bengali language films. He is a former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. He is the recipient of three National Film Awards for Best Actor.
Singer Usha Uthup – Usha Uthup Iyer also known as didi is an Indian pop, filmi, jazz, and playback singer who sang songs in the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. She also appeared in a few films.
Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma: Pyarelal Sharma born in 1940 was a music director duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal began his film career in 1963. The duo emerged as one of the most successful music composers with a discography that ranged from the sentimental “Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai”, “Sheesha Ho Ya Dil Ho”, the playful “Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein Band Ho” to the foot-tapping hits, “Jumma Chumma De De” and “Ek Haseena Thi”.
Vijay Kanth: Tamil actor and politician Vijayakanth, who passed away in December 2023, has been posthumously recognised with Padma Bhushan, and presented for distinguished service of high order. Fondly called Captain by his fans, Vijayakanth was well known for his performances in Tamil hits such as “Vaidehi Kathirunthal”, “Amman Kovil Kizhakale”, “Poonthotta Kaavalkaaran”, “Chinna Gounder” and “Honest Raj”.
