Analysis

Mohanlal-Jeetu Joseph is the ‘Drisham’ film that we all remember. Not only in Malayalam but also in other languages, the films were a huge success. Expectations are huge for a movie in such a combination. The director has succeeded in making ‘Neru’ suitable for them. He starts the story with the rape of Sara in her house and prepares the audience to watch the developments that will happen later. (Neru movie review) Jeetu Joseph’s style is a bit different. After the completion of half an hour of the film, he puts many things in front of the audience regarding the story. Who did the crime? How are the court proceedings going? What decisions do the key characters make? There will be an understanding of such topics. However, the reason to watch the movie with interest is the magic of his screenplay. It worked out in ‘Neru’ too. The unique point is how a blind young woman finds the person who raped her. However, adding the element of her being able to sculpt and move the story forward is nice. Only after Mohanlal comes as lawyer Vijaymohan, the story picks up pace. From there, the arguments, debates, obstacles encountered in the court and the clues to solve them, every element seems interesting, but the way they are executed on the screen seems a bit slow. Especially the questions that Michael’s lawyer asks the victim in court, seem a bit confusing. The drama, which is told in sections during the evidence and counter-arguments, confuses the common viewer. There are references to films like ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Vakeelsaab’ here and there. Overall, ‘Neru’ is a good courtroom drama.

Can be watched without any problem. Streaming on Disney+Hotstar platform. Also available in Telugu.
