Dhanush is an Indian film actor, producer, director, lyricist and singer works in Tamil, Hindi and English movies, he was born as Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja on 28 July 1983 at Egmore, Tamilnadu, India; his father Kasthuri Raja is a film director and his mother Vijayalakshmi is a housewife, his brother Selvaraghavan is also a film director and he has two sisters named Vimalageetha and Karthiga Karthik. He was greatly inspired by a fictional covert operation named Operation Dhanush from the movie Kuruthipunal from which he adopted his screen name Dhanush.

He attended Thai Sathya Matriculation High School, Chennai. He discontinued his education during his High school later completed Bachelor of Computer Application in distance education from Madurai Kamaraj University, he married to Aishwarya who is a elder daughter of famous actor Rajinikanth. They have two son’s and named them Yatra and Linga.  This couple filed divorce in the year 2022.

Dhanush made his debut in the movie Thulluvadho Ilamai in the year 2002 which was directed by his father, this movie got a positive acclaim, after that he acted in Kaadhal Kondein his brother’s debut directed movie which was commercially successful, he was nominated as Filmfare Awards South –Best Actor for this movie, after that he acted in many movie in the year 2010 for his movie Aadukalam he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor, in the year 2013 he made his Hindi debut with the movie Raanjhanaa, his English debut movie was The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir in the year 2015, he received international attention with the song Why This Kolaveri Di which was sung by him in the movie 3, Dhanush produced this movie, he turned as a director in 201 with the movie Pa Paandi, his latest projects Raayan was his 50^th movie released on July 2024, he was the director and writer for this film. He has established his own production company Wunderbar Films along with his wife he won two National awards as producer for movies Kaaka Muttai and Visaranai.
