Bharat Ratna 2024 Award goes to Karpoori Thakur

Late former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur got a rare honour posthumously. On his centenary, the central government honored him with India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.

Karpoori Thakur was born on 24 January 1924 in Samastipur district of Bihar. He Passed away on 17 February 1988. Karpoori Thakur, popularly known as Jananeta ‘Jananayak’, served as the CM of Bihar twice from December 1970 to June 1971 and from December 1977 to April 1979.

Karpoori Thakur is also a freedom fighter who participated in the Quit India movement during 1942. He spent 26 months in Jail for his participation in the freedom struggle.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted hailing the decision of the government to confer Bharat Ratna to Karpoori thakur. This award not only honours his remarkable contributions but also inspires us to continue his mission of creating a more just and equitable society.” in his tweet.
