Yamini Krishnamurthy was a famous Indian Classical dancer of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi styles of dancing. She is known as pioneer and “torch bearer” of Kuchipudi form of dance. She was born on 20 December 1940 in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh and passed away at the age of 84 on 3rd August 2024.

Yamini Krishnamurthy Personal Life and Dancing Career
Classical dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy was born into a Telugu Speaking educated family in Madanapalle Andhra Pradesh. Her Father was a Sanskrit Scholar and Her Grandfather was known for Urdu Poetry. Yamini Krishnamurthy joined Kala Kshetra Dance school in Chennai which was founded by Popular Bharatanatyam Dancer Rukmini Arandel.
Her father sacrificed most of his career to train her daughter in classical dance.
She gave her first performance in 1956. She further evolved her dancing skills under the guidance of Kanchipuram Ellappa Pillai and Tanjavur Kittappapillai.
At the age of 21, She learnt Kuchipudi in Madras from notable scholar Vedantam Lakshmi Narayana Shastri. She even spent learning Kuchipudi at Chinta Krishna Murthy and Pasumarthi Venugopala Krishna Sharma.
