Alluri Sitarama Raju was great Indian freedom fighter who fought against the British India rule, he was born as on 4 July 1897 or 1898 from different sources at Bhimavaram or Moggallu in west Godavari from one source or at Pandrangi in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh. He born as Alluri Rama Raju later added Sita to his name, his father Venkata Rama Raju was a Photographer and his mother Suryanarayanamma was a house wife, he has brother named Satyanarayana Raju and Sister Sitamma Dantulti.
Alluri Sitarama Raju studied at Mission High school, Vishakapatnam and later joined Mrs. A.V.N. College for his graduation but he dropped out of studies to start a revolution against the British Government, he was mastered in Telugu, Sanskrit and English languages at the time of schooling, when he was young he wanted to marry a girl named Sita, but she died at a very younger age, as a memory of her he prefixed her name In his name and became as Alluri Sitarama Raju. Since from his younger age he has a great enthusiasm about the freedom he closely observed the difficulties faced by many tribal people with the British rule. His freedom struggle began when the British rulers imposed Madras Forest Act (1882) in which free movement of Adivasis, grazing of animals and podu cultivations were restricted. This was all made to exploit forest wealth and make all the tribal coolie for British construction works, this made raju to start a Rampa Rebellion which also known as Manya Rebellion to fight against the British rule along with the help of Local tribes in west Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts in the year 1922, during the same time a non-cooperative movement led by Mahatma Gandhi boosted him to fight against British Empire. With the help of tribal supports he built a strong a fighting troop to fight against the British Officers, in August 1922 with the help of 500 his supporters he robbed Chintapalli, Krishnadevipeta and Rajavomangi police stations and looted weapons to fight against the police officers, earlier locals were not willing much to join him but after his victory in defeating various police officials of British they gain faith and started joining his revolutionary fight, the Koya tribal brothers, Gam Malludora and Gam Gantamdora who were tribal leaders joined ramaraju as lieutenants, he used a new technique of guerilla warfare in which a small troop of 80 to 100 people form a small units and attacked large groups of officers with the help of local people, to counter attack him in the same manner government brought special trained Malabar Special Police to counter his unique style of attacking, agency Commissioner J R Higgins announced a prize money of Rs.10000 for who bring the Head of Sitarama Raju and Rs.1000 each for his lieutenants heads, after two years of their effects British police caught Sitaraama raju at Chintapalle, he was shot dead by tying to a tree at Koyyuru village on 7 May 1924. In his memory government of Andhra Pradesh announced his birth day 4th July will be celebrated as state festival annually, in year 1986 Indian Postal Department released a stamp on his name, cricket stadium at Eluru was named after him as Alluri Sitarama Raju Cricket Stadium, a statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju was installed at Parlament of India for his freedom struggle on the request of then MP’s Thota Narasimham and V. Vijayasai Reddy, I the year 1974 a Telugu movie was captured based on the life of Sitarama Raju featuring actor Krishna. In 2022 government of Andhra Pradesh changed the name of Vishakapatnam district as Alluri Sitarama Raju District with paderu as its headquarters.
