Adar Poonawalla is an Indian Businessman, CEO of Serum Institute of India; he was born on 14 January 1981 at Pune, Maharashtra, India. His father Cyrus Poonawala is the owner and MD of Cyrus Poonawalla Group, his mother name is Villoo Poonawalla, Serum Institute of India (SII) has produced the first covid-19 vaccine Covishield in India.
He studied from The Bishop’s School (Pune) and St Edmund’s School Canterbury and completed his Business Management, University of Westminster, London, he was married to Natasha Poonawalla on 15th December 2006 and they have two children Cyrus and Darius
Adar Poonawalla joined SII in 2001, it was the time only 35 countries were in the export list of their products, after his arrival he focused on international market and got certification from WHO to produce vaccination for UNICEF and PAHO, for his efforts the exports list countries got increased to 140 countries, he became the CEO of SII in 2011, SII acquired Bilthoven Biologicals a Netherland based vaccination manufacturing company, in 2014 SII launched Oral Polio vaccine, in 2021 he became chairperson of Poonawalla Fincorp, In 2023 he purchased most the most expensive property in London worth Rs.1446 Crores, recently he purchased 50% stake in Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions for ₹1,000 crores
