Jigna Jitendra Vora was born in 1974 in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law from DG Ruparel College and a diploma in mass communications from K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai. Her journey into crime reporting began with the guidance of her faculty member, Velly Thevar, a well-known crime reporter.

After getting married in 1998 and later separating from her husband, Jigna returned to her maternal home in Garodia Nagar, Ghatkopar, with her four-year-old son. As a single mother, she decided to pursue a career in the media.


Jigna Vora started her media career as a court reporter at the Free Press Journal in 2005. She covered high-profile cases, including gangster Abu Salem’s trial. Over the years, she worked for media houses like Mumbai Mirror, Mid-day, and the Asian Age. Her reporting included stories on underworld figures, bomb blast accused, and sensational murder cases.

In 2011, she was working as the Deputy Chief of Bureau of Asian Age when she was arrested in connection with J Dey’s murder.
