In 1993, actor Ranjith made his acting debut in the movie Pon Vilangu, which was written and directed by R. K. Selvamani and K. S. Rajkumar. Sharing the stage alongside veteran artists like actor Rahman, Sivaranjani, and actress Ramya Krishnan, he immediately made an impression. Reviewers like K. Vijayan of the New Straits Times praised Ranjith for his first role as an actor, pointing out that despite his physique, he did a very good job portraying the character.
In 1994, Ranjith achieved his debut main role in Sindhu Nathi Poo, a countryside drama that gained him more fame. After that, he was seen in smaller roles and sometimes as the main character, like in Minor Mappillai (1996) and Avathara Purushan (1996).
