Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the IAS 2024 notification for the Civil Service Examination (CSE) 2024.

UPSC CSE Exam Date 2024

Aspirants who successfully submit their applications will be called for the UPSC CSE Prelims Exam, scheduled to be held on 26th May 2024. Candidates who clear the prelims exam will then proceed to the mains exam followed by an interview round. 

UPSC Prelims Syllabus

Paper 1:

Current events History and Indian National Movement.Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights
Issues, etc.

Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.

Paper 2:

  • Comprehension;
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability;
  • Decision-making and problem-solving;
  • General mental ability; 
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. — Class X level);

UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern?

  • Number of questions –  Paper 1 – GS of 100 Questions
  • and Paper 2 – CSAT of 80 Questions
  • Language of paper – English  and Hindi
  • Duration of exam – 4 hours (2 hours each for paper)
  • Maximum marks – 400 (200 marks for each each)
  • Qualifying marks – 33% for CSAT and GS on a merit basis
  • Negative Marking – 1/3 marks

UPSC CSE 2024 Vacancy

UPSC has notified 1056 vacancies which include 40 vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disability Categories, i.e. 06 Vacancies for candidates of blindness and low vision; 12 Vacancies for deaf and hard of hearing; 09 Vacancies for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; and 13 Vacancies for multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses to including deaf-blindness. How to Apply for UPSC CSE Exam 2024 ?

The candidates can apply for the exam with the help of the steps given in this article:

Step 1 – Go to the official website of the commission – upsconline.nic.in.

Step 2 – Click on the application link given on the ‘Latest Updates’

Step 3 – Register for the exam. If OTR is completed, log in using the valid credentials. 

Step 4 – After login, click on the application form

Step 5 – Fill out all the details 

Step 5 – Upload the relevant documents, if needed.

Step 6 – Pay the exam fee.

Step 7 – Apply and take the printout of the application form.

  • Nationality: Indian citizen
  • Age: 21-32 years, with relaxations for certain categories
  • Educational Qualification: Graduation from a recognized university

UPSC CSE 2024 Selection Process:

UPSC CSE follows a three-stage selection process:

  • UPSC CSE Prelims Exam 2024: There will be an objective MCQ-based exam consisting of General Studies (Paper I) and CSAT (Paper II). It’s a qualifying stage, and your score doesn’t contribute to the final merit.
  • UPSC CSE Main Examination 2024: A written descriptive exam testing knowledge, understanding, and analytical skills across nine papers. 
  • UPSC Interview 2024: Those who qualify for the exam will be called for the interview.
