President of India appointed S Adbul Nazeer as the new Governor of Andhra Pradesh who was former justice of supreme court.
Who is S Abdul Nazeer and his background
S Abdul Nazeer was born on January 5th 1958 in Beluvai, Karnataka. After taking his law degree, Nazeer enrolled as an Advocate on 1983 and practiced at the Karnataka High court and Bangalore. In 2003, He was appointed as a judge of the Karnataka High Court. Later In 2017, he was directly elevated to the Supreme Court. His elevation was justified by the Collegium as a step to include a judge from the minority community to ensure diversity and transparency on the Bench. He retired from his office on 4th January 2023.
He was part of many Crucial Judgements
Triple Talaq 2017- He was lone muslim judge in the five judges bench which heard the controversial triple talaq case. Triple Talaq was overturned with 3:2 ratio even though S Adbul Nazeer and one more judge upheld the validity of triple talaq which was there part of sharia law.
Ayodya Verdict 2019 – He upheld the report of ASI, which stated about the existence of a Hindu Structure in the disputed region. He gave the verdict in favour of Ram Mandir and thus finally ending the years long dispute with 5-0 verdict
He also heard other pertaining to the demonetization etc prior his retirement on January 4th 2023.
Appointed as the new Governor of Andhra Pradesh
Just after 4 weeks of retirement , S Abdul Nazeer has been appointed as new governor of Andhra Pradesh and he is the third governor of the newly carved state. Biswbushan harichandan has been transferred to Chhattisgarh as new governor of it.
