Rakesh Kumar was born on April 15th, 1983. He is a well-known professional Indian Kabaddi player. He is an all-rounder/ raider. He was the Vice-Captain of the Indian team for the 2007 World Cup at Panvel, India. The team won a Gold medal at the event. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2011 by the Government of India for his achievements in sports. He was born in the Nizampur village of North West Delhi. He began playing Kabaddi in 1997 since his school days. He played for his school team and then represented Delhi at National Level and made it to the Senior National Team in 2003. He also played his debut match in the same year for the National Team. He has been part of the teams- Northern Railways, Chillar Club, Indian Railways, Patna Pirates, U Mumba.
He was a part of the team of the 2004 Kabaddi World Cup, hosted by India. India won the title and defeated Iran. Along with the team, he also won titles and gold medals at the Asian Games in 2006, 2010, 2014, Asian Outdoor Games in 2007, 2009, 2013, and South Asian Games in 2006, 2010. During the Pro Kabaddi League, he was a part of the Patna Pirates under Patna franchise. He was the captain of the team, and they stood in a third-place in the 2014 season. In the 2016 season, he had been signed by U Mumba for the team. In the 2017 season, he shifted to Telugu Titans.
He is the coach of Haryana Steelers, which is among the four new teams added to the Pro Kabaddi League. He has been guiding them since 2018-19.
