Childhood and education
Ponguru Narayana was born on 15 June 1956 in Haranathapuram, Nellore to Subbaramaiah Pungunur. Narayana’s father was a private bus conductor and his childhood was spent in extreme poverty. But never left behind in education. He was the best student in every class he attended and was praised by the teachers. Tuitions were used while studying in college. Not only children but also his fellow students were tutored by Narayana. He won a gold medal from Sri Venkateswara University in Post Graduation Statistics in 1977. After M.Sc., Ph.D. After that, Narayana worked as a part-time lecturer at VR College, Nellore. Then if he gave a lesson for an hour, they would give him six rupees as salary.
Narayana Educational Institutions
Narayana pushed forward with determination to achieve the highest peaks in his field. He wanted to do something new and faced many difficulties during his reign. In his coaching centre, Narayana worked hard to explain the most difficult and complex calculations to the students in an easy way. With this, parents could bring their children from Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam to teach maths. In this order, teachers who teach other subjects along with mathematics have been included with him.
Prasthanam, which started as a small tuition centre, became a successful coaching centre in no time. With Dr. Narayana’s plan, the students there scored the best ranks in competitive exams. In the engineering department, however, Narayana had no competition. Narayana’s students used to excel in MSET as well as IIT competitive exams. Narayana Sanstha, which started in 1979 in a small rented room in Nellore, has now spread all over the country. It has emerged as a prestigious educational institution. More than 4 lakh students and 40 thousand staff members are conducting education in 14 states. Students studying in Narayana Vidya Sansthan excel in prestigious competitive exams like IIT-JEE, NEET, BITSAT, AFMC, AIIMS, and ZIP MAR.
Establishment of educational institutions
To further progress in the field of education, a high school was established in 1990 and in 1993 a residential college for girls named Narayana Mahila College was established in Nellore. After that, in 1999 Junior College was established. In the same year, IIT coaching centres were also opened at Nellore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. In the late 1990s, Narayana Vidya Sansthan entered the field of professional education.
Engineering colleges were started in Nellore in 1998 and Gudur in 2001. At the same time, focus was also placed on medical education. A medical college was started in 1999, a dental college in 2001 and a paramedical department of medical colleges in 2002. In the same year, Junior Colleges started Enset Coaching Centers in towns like Tirupati, Kurnool, Anantapur, Rajahmundry and Kakinada. The leadership of Narayan Educational Institutions has been further strengthened with the establishment of PMT, and IIT-JEE coaching centers in various parts of North India.
The institute started a correspondence department in 2004-05 and an online version of the All India Test Series in 2007. Dr. P. Narayana was the backbone of all Narayana educational institutions. Currently, Narayana educational institutions are providing education to more than six lakh students and more than 60 thousand staff members in 21 states of the country. Today Narayana is a leader in educational institutions.
Entering Politics
Dr. P Narayana, who rose to a distinguished position in the field of education, entered the field of politics as well. He entered the political arena with the desire to do something for the society. Narayana entered politics especially with the inspiration and introduction of the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He initially worked for the TDP survey department
and gradually took steps towards active politics. From 2004 to 2014, he played the role of opposition to the TDP party. He did his best to get Chandrababu into power. But Chandrababu encouraged Narayana who stood by the party during the difficult times.
After the Telugu Desam Party came to power in Andhra Pradesh in 2014 elections, Chandrababu Narayan was given a suitable position by taking him into the cabinet. He was given participation in making the development plans of Navandhra Pradesh. Also.. Narayana also played a vital role in the construction of the new capital Amaravati along with the municipal urban development departments of Andhra Pradesh.
Controversies
Several cases of malpractice have been registered against Narayan educational institutes for the leakage of question papers of the 10th class annual examinations in the academic year 2021-2022. In this order, Narayan was detained and interrogated by the AP CID police. However, as there were evidences that he had resigned from the post of chairman of Narayana Vidya Sansthan in 2014, he was released on bail on the same day with a personal guarantee.
