Yash Dhull is an uncapped Indian cricketer who is a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm off-spinner. Dhull was born in New Delhi on November 11, 2002, and plays as an opening batsman for the Delhi cricket team in domestic cricket. Growing through the rank of Delhi cricket, Dhull represented the side at various age-group levels before making his Ranji debut.
Dhull, however, made himself a name before his senior domestic debut as he was selected as the captain of the India Under-19 team for the 2022 World Cup in the West Indies. He also led the Under-19 national side at the 2021 Asia Cup at the level in the UAE. India emerged triumphant in both marquee tournaments.
Dhull also memorably scored 110 in the semifinals of the Under-19 World Cup against Australia as India progressed to the finals. ‘The Boys in Blue’ was eventually defeated in the final, and Yash Dhull was subsequently named as captain of the ICC team of the tournament. Less than a fortnight later, Yash Dhull made his first-class debut against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji trophy 2021-22. He made his maiden appearance special by scoring centuries in both the innings of the match.
Dhull finished his first season with an average of nearly 120 while topping the run-chart as Delhi’s highest run-getter (479 runs). Yash also scored double-hundred in that season against Chhattisgarh. He was also named as the captain of the side the following season. Before his Ranji debut, the Delhi Capitals bought this local boy more than twice his base price (20 lakhs) after a short bidding war with Punjab Kings.
Dhull, however, didn’t play the subsequent IPL season as he washed his side, and finished fifth from the dugout. His IPl debut came in 2023 against Mumbai Indians in defeat, with the young batter scoring just two runs in the middle-order. Making just four appearances in the season, Dhull had an unforgettable debut season, while Delhi Capitals were among the bottom dwellers at the point table.

A flamboyant right-handed batter from Delhi touted to be the next superstar after leading the U19 team to a World Cup win. Sounds familiar? That’s because it is, we’ve already witnessed the same narrative twice – first with Virat Kohli and then again with Unmukt Chand. We’ve also seen how this story can go down two very different paths; one saw Virat Kohli rise to global stardom while the other saw Unmukt Chand disappear into relative obscurity. Yash Dhull, however, is in control of this story and from what we’ve seen already, he’s done little but to impress.
Dhull not only led his team to the 2022 U19 Cricket World Cup title but he also managed to stand-out with his batting performance in a side that was effectively a cauldron overflowing with talent. He finished the tournament with 229 runs from 4 innings at an impressive average of 76.33 and his tally included a century against Australia that turned heads.
It didn’t take long for Dhull, who’d made his way through Delhi’s U14 and U16 teams, to get a call-up to the senior team. He made his first class debut in February 2022, just a couple of weeks after lifting the U19 World Cup in the West Indies, against Tamil Nadu and he didn’t set a foot wrong. He became only the third batter to make a century in each innings (113 & 113*) on Ranji Trophy debut after Nari Contractor for Gujarat in 1952-53 and Virag Awate for Maharashtra in 2012-13. He didn’t stop there though, his best score came in the form of an unbeaten double-hundred against Chhattisgarh and it was an innings under distress as Delhi had been asked to follow-on and they were batting to save the game. Dhull ended the season as Delhi’s highest run-getter in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, amassing 479 runs from just 6 innings at an astonishing average of 119.75.
The Delhi Capitals (Daredevils then), who’d made the mistake of letting Virat Kohli go way back in the first edition of the IPL, picked Dhull up in the 2022 IPL Auction.

- Yash Dhull is a right-handed batter who plays for India at the under-19 level. He has also represented Delhi at Under-16 and 19 tournaments.
- Yash Dhull was selected in a 20-member squad for the 2021 U19 Asia Cup where he was named as the captain of the side. On 19 December 2021, a team for the U19 World Cup team was announced where he was again named as the captain. On this occasion, a round cake shaped like a cricket field was cut at the Bal Bhavan International School’s academy ground in Dwarka where he was trained.
- He started playing cricket at the age of six when his mother saw the spark in him while he was doing shadow practice without the bat. It so happened that Yash saw boys elder than him playing cricket. He also urged them that he wanted to join them but they refused. His mother was watching the entire scene from the balcony. Then she took him to a Bal Bhawan cricket academy and enrolled him there. From thereon, his practice began.
- His father worked as the executive of a cosmetic brand in Delhi but had to give up his job to pursue his son’s passion for cricket.
- His grandfather used to take him to cricket training and matches. He used to sit outside the academy waiting for him to complete the training.
