Shubham Dubey has been interested in cricket since childhood. In adolescence, Shubham used to play cricket with a tennis ball and took training from Rohit Kesarwar. His childhood was spent in a financial crisis. Shubham Dubey did not even have money to buy gloves. In such a situation, a lawyer Sujit Jaiswal helped him. Sujit used to run a cricket club named Advocate XI Cricket Club. It was he who provided a cricket kit and other necessary items like gloves, pads and diet to Shubham Dubey. Sujit Jaiswal died of Covid-19 in 2021.

Shubham Dubey played in the Under-19, Under-23 and ‘A’ division teams of Eleven Star Cricket Club in the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) league. When he started playing in the Vidarbha Under-23 team, he dreamed of becoming a professional cricketer. Later he came to know about the Times Shield tournament in Mumbai from former Vidarbha wicketkeeper Anirudh Chore. He used to earn around Rs 10,000 every month and play tennis ball tournaments for six months in Mumbai and the remaining six months in Nagpur and surrounding areas.

After some time, Shubham Dubey was told about the club by his friend and cricketer Rohit Castlewar, after which he started playing in the Royal Cricket Association Club. In 2019, Shubham played for Rangrezz Brush in the Arjun MDA Chashak Tournament and 2020 in the YSBS Gondia Tournament for XI Warriors Dubai. In 2021 he also represented VCA Team Green in the VCA T20 tournament.

In 2021, Shubham Dubey started playing domestic cricket for the Vidarbha cricket team. On 08 November 2021, Shubham Dubey made his T20 debut against Manipur in the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In his first match, Dubey played an innings of 18 runs in 21 balls. He scored 225 runs in 7 matches at an average of 73.76 and a strike rate of 187.28 in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season. He scored the joint fastest half-century for Vidarbha by scoring 58 runs in 20 balls in the match against Bengal. In which he hit six sixes and three fours. He has played 20 T20 matches for Vidarbha so far, in which he has scored 485 runs at an average of 37.30 and a strike rate of 145.20.

Shubham Dubey made his List A debut on 23 December 2023 against Meghalaya in the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Dubey played an innings of 16 runs in 19 balls in that match. So far, he has scored 159 runs in 8 List A matches at an average of 31.80 and strike rate of 90.34.

In the 2024 IPL auction in December 2023, Rajasthan Royals bought Shubham Dubey for Rs 5.8 crore. Whereas his base price was Rs 20 lakh.
