In the final match of the 17th season of IPL, Kolkata got land slide victory by defeating SRH badly. Kolkata knight riders grabbed the IPL trophy for the third time.
Kolkata defeated Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final match. The team chased down the simple target of 114 runs set by Hyderabad in just 10.3 overs with the loss of just 2 wickets.
KKR won the IPL in 2012 and 2014 and after 10 years now they won it again.
KKR Batting line-up : Sunil Narine failed getting out at 6.. Venkatesh Iyer (52*; 4 fours, 3 sixes in 26 balls) hit a half century. Rehmanullah Gurbaz (39; 5 fours, 2 sixes off 32 balls) excelled.
Among the Hyderabad bowlers, Cummins and Shahbaz took a wicket each.
Hyderabad disappointed both in batting and bowling
After winning the toss and batting first, Hyderabad were completely out of sorts. The top order totally collapsed. Openers Abhishek Sharma (2), Head (0) who were crucial for the game under performed in line to the last few matches. Rahul Tripathi (9) who came in the first down failed completely. Coming in the middle order, Markram (20) tried to build an innings with Nitish Reddy (13). Harshit Rana broke this pair. Within a short span of time, Markram also knocked out by Starc in Russell’s bowling. Except for captain Cummins (24), all the others who came to the crease were limited to single digit scores. Among the Kolkata bowlers, Russell took 3 wickets, Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana took 2 wickets each, Varun Chakraborty, Narine and Vaibhav Arora each took a wicket.
Surprisingly this season SRH which set many records has made the highest IPL total ever and lowest IPL total in the finals. KKR under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir mentoring looks strong and they well deserve the title. Congratulations to KKR and Better Luck next time to Hyderabad.
