Gukesh Dommaraju also known as Gukesh D, is a famous Indian Chess Prodigy a Chess Grandmaster (2019) who was born on 29 May 2006 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His father Dr. Rajinikanth is an ENT Surgeon and his mother Dr. Padma is a Microbiologist, he started playing chess at the age of 7, he did his schooling from Velammal Vidyalaya school, Mel Ayanambakkam, Chennai.
Gukesh won his first International medal in Asian School Chess Championships (2015) held at Singapore under U-9 category, later in 2017 he won National U-11 Open Chess championship in Pune, in 2018 he won 5 gold medals at Asian Youth Chess Championships in U-12 different formats in the same year he won the title of International Master at 34th Cappelle-la-Grande Open. On 15 January 2019 Gukesh became the second-youngest grandmaster (at age of 12 years 7 Months 17 days) in history next to Sergey Karjakin (12 years 7 months), Gukesh was just 17 days elder to him which made him 2nd youngest Grandmaster, later in 2021 Abhimanyu Mishra became youngest Grandmaster at the age of 12 years 4 months 25 days and made Gukesh 3rd youngest Grandmaster in the world, he won individual Gold Medal at the chess Olympiad in 2022 and later on 22nd April 2024 Gukesh became the youngest ever contender to compete for the World Championship and after winning in this he became the youngest winner of FIDE Candidates Tournament. In September 2024 Gukesh took part in 45th Chess Olympiad held at Budapest, Hungary and won individual gold medal and for his efforts India won its first ever team gold medal at the Olympiads.
