Rajvardhan Hangargekar is a young bowling all-rounder who plays domestic cricket for Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Hangargekar is known for his fiery pace bowling and power-hitting style with bat playing in the middle-order. After breaking into the Maharashtra side for the 2020–21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Hangargekar first stole the limelight while playing for the India Under-19 squad. In the Under-19 T20I World Cup 2022 in Trinidad and Tobago he smashed a hat-trick of sixes against Ireland in their Group B match. India went on to win the tournament eventually and he played a significant part in helping them achieve the feat. He proved to be a genuinely hard-hitting batter lower the order and a very good powerplay bowler in the tournament. Hangargekar picked up five wickets and scored some valuable runs while batting lower down the order proving the point. Due to his meteoric rise just after the World Cup, his inclusion in the IPL turned into an intense bidding affair. Having kept his base price at Rs 30 lakhs, Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, and Chennai all jumped with full strength to get him on board. Eventually, CSK managed to pull off the trade buying him for Rs 1.5 crore and making him one of the potential players to look out for in IPL 2023. Hangargekar’s name however has also been in the headlines for different reasons earlier. The U-19 World Cup star was accused of committing age-fudging by Maharashtra’s Commissioner of Sports and Youth Department, Omprakash Bakoria in 2022.
