Aman Sehrawat Born on 16 July 2003, and hails from Birohar, a small village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district. In his formative years, Sehrawat harboured a keen interest in mud wrestling.
Birohar, like many villages in the region, struggles with basic amenities. According to a Hindustan Times report, the village experiences severe power shortages, receiving only a few hours of electricity each day. The local canal water is too salty for consumption, forcing villagers to travel approximately 500 metres to tube wells for clean drinking water.
Inspired by Sushil Kumar winning a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Games, a 10-year-old Sehrawat shifted his focus to wrestling, and enrolled at the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi, an arena that has produced several famous wrestlers.
Both of Sehrawat’s parents passed away when he was just 11. His mother took her own life following struggles with mental health issues, a few months after which his father, who had been a tractor mechanic before becoming a farmer, also died.
After his parents passed away, Sehrawat and his younger sister Puja were taken in by their uncle, Sudhir Sehrawat. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sudhir Sehrawat disclosed that his nephew battled with depression following his mother’s death, and even considered taking drugs. However, the situation turned around when he started training at the Chhatrasal Stadium.

Major achievements
Aman Sehrawat rose to fame in 2019 after winning gold at the Asian Cadet Championships. Two years later, he won his first National Championships title. In 2022, Sehrawat made history as the first Indian to win gold at the U-23 World Championships and also secured a bronze medal at the Asian Games. This was followed by a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships and another at the Zagreb Open wrestling tournament in 2024.
Sehrawat competed in the 2024 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, earning a spot for India in the 2024 Olympics. He was selected by the Wrestling Federation of India over Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya, making him the only Indian male wrestler to qualify for the Games.
