According to Geological survey of India Rocks in Telangana are classified into four categories

  • Orchian Rocks,
  • Vindhya Rocks,
  • Gondwana Rocks and
  • Dravidian Rocks.

Peninsular Gneissic Complex Rocks are also abundant in the area. At places one can find Deccan Traps also

Mountains in Telangana:

Hill ranges in Telangana are part of Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats over deccan plateau. In general western ghats are referred as sahyadri/satnala. Yet their extended hill ranges are called by various names in various districts

WESTERN GHAT HILL RANGES IN TELANGANA

These extend up to North & North Western districts of Telangana. They are called with different names in different districts

Key Notes:

Among the western ghat hill ranges of Telangana, the highest range Mahaboob ghat is located in nirmal district of Telangana.

Hyderabad district is primarily made up of cardiorite naisys, hornblend biotite and Crystalline rocks
