1. About PMMVY Scheme
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a Centrally Sponsored Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) compliant scheme to implement maternity benefits. Benefits under the scheme are directly transferred to the bank/ post office account of the beneficiaries from the Escrow bank account maintained at State/ Union Territory level in a transparent manner. In past this was known by the name Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana, It was originally launched in 2010 and renamed in 2017
Under PMMVY, a cash incentive of ` 5000/- is provided directly to the Bank / Post Office Account of Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM) for first living child of the family subject to fulfilling specific conditions relating to Maternal and Child Health.
PMMVY is implemented using the platform of Anganwadi Services scheme of Umbrella ICDS under Ministry of Women and Child Development in respect of States/ UTs implementing scheme
through Women and Child Development Department/ Social Welfare Department and through Health system in respect of States/ UTs where scheme is implemented by Health & Family Welfare Department.
PMMVY is implemented through a centrally deployed Web Based MIS Software application and the focal point of implementation would be
the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) and ASHA/ ANM workers.
2. Eligibility
All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mother (PW&LM) (except those who are in regular employment with the Central Government or State Government or Public Sector Undertaking or those who are in receipt of similar benefits under any law for the time being in force) are eligible to claim benefits for first living child of the family under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
Around 2 crore pregnant women have claimed benefit under PMMVY scheme from 2018-19 till 2022.
3. BENEFIT UNDER PRADHAN MANTRI MATRU VANDANA YOJANA
1. PMMVY envisages payment of maternity benefits of ₹5,000/- in beneficiary’s bank/ post office account linked to her Aadhaar Number in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
2. The eligible beneficiary is entitled to receive the remaining cash incentive as per approved norms towards Maternity Benefit under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) after institutional delivery so that on an average, a woman gets ₹6000/-
3. In the revamped PMMVY maternity benefit amounting to Rs. 6000/- is also to be provided for the second child, but only if, the second child a girl child, to discourage pre-birth sex selection and to promote and celebrate the girl child.
To further reduce the compliance burden on the beneficiary, the number of installments under the scheme has also been reduced from 3 to 2 in the revamped scheme.
4. Documents required for PMMVY
>> A duly filled Form 1 - A along with
>> copy of MCP Card (Mother and Child Protection Card),
>> Proof of Identity of Beneficiary and her Husband (Aadhaar Card or permitted Alternate ID Proof of both) and
>> Bank/ Post Office Account details of the beneficiary
