Siddaramaiah obliged and was successful.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Later, he contested from Chamundeshwari constituency on Bharatiya Lok Dal\u2019s ticket and entered the 7th Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1983.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Siddaramaiah, who came from a humble background surprised everyone with his victory and became a sensation in the Mysore region of Karnataka.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He joined the Janata Party and became the first president of the Kannada Surveillance Committee, which was set up to supervise the implementation of Kannada as an official language.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Siddaramaiah was reelected in 1985 and took charge of the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>His political career went for a ride in the 1990s, and he often bounced from party to party while handling multiple election defeats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He headed the finance ministry in the Janata Dal government, served as the Secretary General of the party, and was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister in 1996.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Siddaramaiah joined the Janata Dal (Secular) with HD Deve Gowda but lost in the 1999 state elections. However, he was again appointed the Deputy Chief Minister under the INC and JD(S) coalition government in 2004.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After differences with Deve Gowda, Siddaramaiah was expelled from JD(S) and joined the Indian National Congress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He contested elections from Varuna Constituency in 2013 and became the CM. He served a full term from 2013 to 2018.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Second_term_Chief_minister_2023%E2%80%93present\"><\/span><strong>Second term Chief minister (2023\u2013present)<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After Congress emerged victorious in the 2023 legislative assembly election, Siddaramaiah was again elected Chief Minister and D. K. Shivakumar was appointed his deputy. After the first cabinet meeting, Siddaramaiah announced that all &#8220;5 guarantees&#8221; announced in the party&#8217;s manifesto had been approved and would be brought into effect in the following cabinet meeting. He also insisted that the officers roll back his &#8220;zero-traffic&#8221; protocol to avoid traffic congestion problems for the public. His council of ministers was named the following week and was reported that he would hold finance, cabinet affairs and all unallocated portfolios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His cabinet approved reverting changes by the previous BJP government in school textbooks, which included removing lessons on RSS founder K. B. Hedgewar and Hindutva figure Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, launched a scheme providing free bus rides to women in the Karnataka state buses and announced the implementation of other four pre-poll guarantees in the state budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July 2023, he tabled the state budget for the record 14th time in the state&#8217;s history.
