He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly from the Thiruverumbur constituency in 2016. He came from a vibrant political family. He is the son of late DMK MLA Anbil Poyyamozhi and Grand Son of DMK veteran Anbil P Dharmalingam. His uncle, Anbil Periyasamy, is also a politician from the DMK party.
