It was established in 1336 by the brothers&nbsp;Harihara I&nbsp;and&nbsp;Bukka Raya I&nbsp;of the&nbsp;Sangama dynasty. The entire Kingdom was divided into various administrative divisions called <em>mandalams<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is the hierarchy of division for the\u00a0 administrative convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Empire &#8211;&gt; Mandalams &#8211;&gt; Nadus &#8211;&gt; Sthalas &#8211;&gt; Gramas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The governor of the mandalam was called <em>mandaleshwara<\/em> or <em>nayaka<\/em>. The governors were given full powers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Revenue_system_during_the_Vijayanagaras\"><\/span>Revenue system during the Vijayanagaras<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Land revenue was the primary source of income for the Kingdom.\u00a0 tributes and gifts from vessels and feudal chiefs, customs collected at the ports, taxes on various professions are additional income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Land<\/strong> <strong>Revenue was 1\/6th of the total produce.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Judiciary_during_the_Vijayanagaras\"><\/span>Judiciary during the Vijayanagaras <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The king administered the justice impartiality. He presides over the <em>Sabha<\/em>, the highest court of the appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Dharma Shastras<\/em> were maintained based on which cases were decided. At the lower level there were village courts, guild organisations, caste courts etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Military_administration_of_Vijayanagaras\"><\/span>Military administration of Vijayanagaras<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The military has a well organised and efficient standing army. Nadu Prabhu (incharge of Nadus) generally protected from invasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The head of the military or chief was called Nayak or <em>palaiyagars<\/em>. They were paid tributes in the form of land called <em>Amaram<\/em>. They had their own rights on the land. The other army was paid in cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ayagar<\/em> system was prevalent at village level. Ayagars took care of the administration in villages.
